Have piles. Sometimes bleeds. Any remedy? munibun@yahoo.com??

Question: Suffering from piles since one year. When I take pilex it subsides. when I stop taking Pilex (ayurvedic medicine) bleeding and slight pain resurface. Is there any permanent remedy. I take jowar bread, vegetables, pulsesand sometimes chicken. I avoid mutton, spices and wheat.
Answers: Piles, or hemorrhoids, are areas in the anal canal where the tissue, which contains lots of blood vessels, has become swollen. They can be internal, occurring inside the anus, or external, when they can be seen and felt on the outside of the anus. When visible they look like round pink swellings, the size of a pea or a grape. Piles are common in pregnant women, but are rare in children.

Piles are classified according to their position. First-degree piles remain inside the rectum or anal canal. Second-degree piles protrude (or prolapse) from the anus when the bowels are opened, but return of their own accord afterwards. Third-degree piles are similar, but only return inside when pushed back. Fourth-degree piles hang permanently outside the anus.

Piles can usually be treated at home. The most important element in encouraging existing piles to clear up is to avoid constipation. By having regular bowel movements, and avoiding straining, stools pass easily and do not put pressure on the blood vessels in the anal area.

Eating plenty of fibre-rich foods such as fruit, vegetables and wholegrain cereals (eg brown rice, wholemeal bread), and drinking plenty of fluids, especially water, should keep bowel movements soft.

Avoid rich and spicy food, non-vegtarian food, strict no to pickles

It may help to take a fibre supplement or mild laxatives which soften bowel motions.

Homeopathy greatly helps in curing piles specially the 1st 2nd and 3rd degree piles and no surgery should be thought of till homeopathy has been tried. Some of the most commonly used medicines in treating piles are:
Hamamelis –Q: very very useful in controlling bleeding caused due to piles
Aesculus: hip-piles with acute pain in the back
Collinsonia: chronic painful bleeding piles with pain as if sticks were placed in the rectum.
Graphitis: for piles and fissures with hard stools
Ratanhia: pain as if splinters of glass were sticking in the rectum
Other commonly used medicines are Sulphur, Nux. Vomica, silicea etc.

Head Remedy is:

Sulphur 30 & Nux. Vomica 30
Sulphur 30 to be take 3-4 drops in 1/4th glass of water; preferably empty stomached; early in the morning.
Nux. Vomica 30 to be take 3-4 drops in 1/4th glass of water; preferably empty stomached; 30-45 minutes after dinner/before going to bed.

Double your water intake as well. See if you can find a treatment called Linoforce as well. You need to treat the constipatory part before you can heal the piles.
Try some Anusol as well.
Regular warm baths may relieve irritation.
Ice packs may help reduce swelling, but do not apply ice directly to your skin.
Soothing creams may ease symptoms such as discomfort and itchiness. These often contain agents such as bismuth subgallate and zinc oxide. These are available over-the-counter from pharmacies.
Creams, such as lignocaine (lidocaine), contain a local anaesthetic to provide short-term relief from any discomfort. These products should only be used for a few days. They are not recommended for long-term use or for children. Ask your pharmacist for advice.
Products containing corticosteroids, such as Anugesic-HC and Proctosedyl, may reduce inflammation and pain. They should only be used for up to seven days as they may be harmful if used long-term.
Eating plenty of fibre-rich foods such as fruit, vegetables and wholegrain cereals (eg brown rice, wholemeal bread and wholemeal pasta), and drinking plenty of fluids, especially water, should keep bowel movements soft.

It may help to take a fibre supplement such as ispaghula husk (eg Fybogel) or mild laxatives such as lactulose solution (eg Regulose), which soften bowel motions. Do not use strong laxatives, such as the stimulant laxative senna, on a routine basis unless your doctor advises you to because long-term use can be harmful.

Good luck.
Hi munibun ,
There are some common home based remedies which can be used for treatment of piles
1. Ice packs on the rear end, but do not use the ice directly on the skin
2. Warm baths
3. Proper diet for a smooth and easy way out for the stool
4. Thoroughly wash 3 to 4 figs and soak it overnight and have it first thing in the morning empty stomach. Again soak 3 to 4 figs in the morning to have it in the evening, continue this for 1 month
5. A mixture of 1 tsp fresh mint juice, 1 tsp lemon juice and 1 tbsp of honey. Drink this mixture three times a day for a painless relief.
6. Mash and boil 1 ripe banana in 1 cup of milk and drink this at least 2-3 times a day
7. Consumption of buttermilk after your meal is very useful
8. Radish juice every morning and evening is also very good
