Does taking amino acids like 5htp down regulate your own serotonin???

Question: when bodybuilders take steroids like testosterone it decreases there own natural testosterone.

i want to know if the same is true when you take other natural things like (amino acids) 5htp which converts to serotonin or l-tyrosine which converts to l-dopa or dopamine.
Answers: I don't think 5HTP helps with regulating the serotonin, In have heard it is a mood stabiliser & is good for anxiety & it is supposed to help with depression but I specfically asked about its relations to serotonin in a health shop where the assistans are quite knowlegable in supplements & was
told 5HTP is not linked to increasing serotonin & suggested melatonin, she told me melatonin has been so successful in treating depression that the pharmecutical companies saw as it as rival to the prescription anti-depressants & stopped it (please ask at your local health shop, not Holland & Barret but usually good health shops have knowlegable staff)...
PS. melatonin is illegal in the UK but can be bought over the counter in the US, however u can buy it on Ebay.
