When you are really sore, like from a hard practice, how do you become no sore before the next day??
Question: back aches, quadriceps hurt, biceps hurt
Answers: For the muscular aches, dose up on your Vitamin C.
Breaks down lactic acid which is what causes broken down muscle tissue to hurt during the rebuilding process.
anti-inflammatories like aspirin or advil (ibuprofen) will help
Elevate your legs above your heart. This will make all of the blood that went to your legs back where it belongs.
take a good hot shower rub capsasian on your arms, legs and lower back if you have someone who can give you a massage thats even better
Lots of water and salt and performing the same activity later, only much slower.
rest
Take a warm not hot shower then gently stretch and take some motrin and use capsaisin cream. But be careful, that stuff is HOT.
stretch your whole body maybe do a little yoga and get a nice long massage
Prepare for the practice by taking some mild pain relief, like asprain or ibuprophen and being well hydrated.
Limber up before hand, and do a good cool off/stretch afterwards. Ease your muscles into and out of the workout. This is a BIG issue here and will do the most good.
After the workout, pop some more of the pain killer, even if it is not quite the time limit and rehydrate yourself. Eat some things that will help you replace nutrients- bananas, milk, other fruits and veggies, meat, etc. Avoid junk food, empty calories, etc. (All Gatorade, etc. does is to replace the salts you lost. For as much as it costs, you can do the same thing by eating smart and drinking a lot of water!)
Do not just plop down and sleep afterwards- your muscles are still tense and will stiffen more. Gentle work and movement is good here- yoga, tai chi, mild housework, a relaxing walk, etc.
Pop some more pain-killer before going to bed, and you should be a lot better off. (Note- this assumes that a few hours have passed since the last dose. Over-the-counter pain killer is very forgiving in its doses, but on't be foolish! Also- if using Aleve-like meds, only take the first dose.)
