When did they start giving hepatitis shots??
Question: I can't find any records and I don't think I got them.
Answers: Which form of Hepititas are you referring to?
A - common
B - A little more serious. Eventual cirhossis of the liver. Usually obtained by between blood to blood or fluid contact from an infected person to another.
C - Most serious case.
Most vaccine shots are give in 3 doses. The US just started to give the Hep A shots to kids recently. The doctor will need to take a blood sample to determine if you are a carrier of Hep,if you have Hep and which one, and if you are not sure if you had your shots...the blood test can determine if you have any antibodies for them. Your physician will have more pamphlets to let you know.
If you do have Hep B or C, you will need to avoid hot, spicy foods that aggravate your liver condition. Eliminate alcohol consumption so as to no accelerate liver deteriation. Depending on how old you are and your liver condition, there are treatments for Hep. It is not a cure, but a treatment. Sometimes the Hep can also go into remission. Best talk with your physician.
around 1993/ 94
Prior to 1991, the vaccine was recommended only for people who were identified to be at a high risk for acquiring the infection.
In 1991, the recommendation was extended to include all infants as well. This new recommendation was made for several reasons, including:
*
Approximately 30% of people who get hepatitis B do not have any identified risk factors, so people at high risk often were not immunized.
*
When infants and children are infected with hepatitis B, the odds that they will develop chronic liver disease or cancer are at least three times higher than those infected as adults. Therefore, preventing infection in infants and children is very important.
The series of shot for hepatitis are not among the required immunizations. Your doc may recommend them if your lifestyle or occupation put you at risk.
I think they started between 2002-2004, my daughter who is in high school (now a Junior) got a notice to get her immuniziation records updated, with hepatitis B shots. She was sent home with this notice during her Freshman Year,it was required that they should have all three series of shots by their Junior Year or they would not be able to go back to school. I got it done, Sophomore Year!
Hepatitis shots wasn't a requirement when she was a baby, but it became a requirement when she got to high school.
