Fluoxetine (prozac)??

Question: I was prescribed these at the beginning of the year and have since lost my sex drive - I would rather sleep than have sex and its not as though I have gone off my boyfriend cause I love him so much and still fancy him rotten! Has this happened to anyone else and if so what did you do about it?
Answers: Ive just been prescribed this as well. I hope it doesnt. Its supposed to help with my PMT and the fact that at the moment i am tired all the time. No point in taking it if its going to make me sleep more. I will be interested to read the answers to this. Thanks
Come off the prozac and see if your libido improves. Talk to your GP first though.
i have been taking them for 2 years and the same thing has happened to me, its also made me put on weight and made my mood swings worse, and the effects dont wear off after a while, i'd try going to your dr and askng him to swap and put you on different ones, i've tried citalipram as well and the side effects on htem are worse so i wouldnt let the doctor swap you to those either.
i used to take it and yup it supressed my drives so to speak, hubby took it too for a while and stopped using it saying no sex drive mad him more depressed
Loss of libido is a common side affect with prozac, in fact, with most anti depressants. It will recover when you come off the medication.
Talk to your doctor about switching medication. It's strange that a lot of people find Prozac making them tired. It gave me wicked insomnia and my sex drive was insane!!

Anyways, there are other medications out there that can help your depression and may not have the same sexual side effects. Remember, if your doctor doesn't take your complaints seriously, and sometimes this does happen, stop seeing him! See a better doctor instead.
sounds depressingly common
Classic antidepressants are linked to lowered libido - this can be one of the side effects. More worse, they are linked to worsening of symptoms with time and have been linked to suicidal deaths. So I would seriously consider getting yourself off of them but you have to talk to your doctor first as you would have to come off the medication in the right way and a doctor knows best about this - i.e. you can't usually can't just stop taking it but may have to do it stepwise or something. I'm not a doctor so I don't know. Talk to your doctor.

Have you considered a herbal alternative for your depression: Rhodiola rosea (one of the best on the market and fast acting), St Johns Wort (commonly prescribed by Doctors in Germany), Lemon balm, 5HTP, wild lettuce or passiflora incarnata. These are just a few examples.

Please note however that you CANNOT take any of these herbal alternatives if you are still on anti-depressant medication or you could get HARMFUL doubling-up of effects because they often work on the same pharmacological pathways.

Also: you have to be careful taking St Johns Wort if you are any other medication as it is linked to herb-drug interactions so you would have to ask a pharmacist or doctor before taking it. Plus as stated previously you CANNOT take herbal antidepressants whilst on antidepressant medication.

Addittionally:
Forgot to say that Rhodiola rosea, also known as arctic root, is known as an adaptogen, along with the more typically known ginsengs. It helps your body adapt to stressful situations, whether these are physical, mental or emotional.
It could thus help with feeling tired in addition to depression.

Best wishes.

Juicy:

Good for PMT is agnus castus (chaste berry). This works as an hormone regulating herbal to reduce all PMT symptoms. Another good herbal for PMT is camomile tea. Plus a cacium/magnesium combination supplement can often help with many of the symptoms.

Best wishes.
i took Prozac in the past and had the same problem so my GP put me on ssri`s instead. These are another type of anti depressant which instead of making you tired and lethargic they give you a boost by producing seretoning levels in the brain. Where the sex drive is concerned that is just a common accurance with most anti depressants. If you need anymore advice give me a mail.
sounds like me apart from the sleeping i find i toss and turn at night. Im only on 20mg a day and had come off them thinking I was better but after snapping at everyone I care about I decided to start taking them about 2 weeks ago so I have a few more weeks before they get back into my system. Good luck for the future
