Contact lenses??

Question: Went to see optician today because ive had problems wearing my contacts due to my eyes being so dry. was told that my tear ducts/glands were blocked. Was told what to do to unblock them. Using hot flannel and rubbing eyes to unblock them. Any other suggestions to speed it up?

What i want to know is that is, is that a normal problem with tear ducts blocking up?

Thanks
Answers: I use a tear replacement gel. One drop each eye and 30 mins before I put the contacts in. Your doctor can prescribe these for you mine are called Viscose Tears Eye Gel or you can buy them from the Chemist. The tube has to be discarded one month after opening but they do work and keep the eyes moist.
Hope this helps and Happy New Year.
sure is and i think you can get some drops for it too
Hold some scraped, raw potato on your eyes (eyes closed) with a moist wash cloth for a half-hour a couple of times a day. Works great for me!
i wear contacts too. but i dont have your problem. sorry. anyway maybe you should try blinking a little bit more. or you can get eye drops for dry eyes. i think it is normal though. some of my friends are like that.
i've got the same problem, hot flannel yes, but not burning hot, no rubbing, massaging lids downwards gently, rubbing will make them sore, the condition is called blepharitis, you should also be using artificial tear drops from your gp, it makes contacts far more comfortable
all the below listed are great suggestions. I would also suggest (assuming you have a astigmitism), that you get some of the newer contacts that allow more oxygen to pass through (like baush and lombs purevision series. I couldn't wear any contact lenses due to severe dry eye until these came out and I love them!!!
Are you tearing allot? If not you tear ducts are not blocked. The tear ducts drain tears into the cavernous sinus and have nothing to do with dry eye syndrome So what is it and why.
This is where the tear film that covers the cornea at all times is deficient in some way and breaks down too quickly or there is insufficient tear flow or both. If this is happening contact lenses of most types become I'uncomfortable. Why? it may be physiological, in other words it just happens,as it has to me. It maybe being caused by a drug. Anti depressants and the pill are good examples. Excessive alcohol consumption is another on. What do to. You can get artificial tear solutions and gels that work pretty well but they will not solve the underlying problem, .Im a bit out of touch now but a soft lens with high oxygen permabilty and a high water content could well be the long term answer. As long as you have a low level of astigmatism that is.
Try laying off the lenses for a while I found this worked occasionally. Unblocking your myobian glands with a hot flannel, well you can give it a try. Qualified Contact Lens Fitter retired.
