What should I do about my contacts??
Question: I recently got diagnosed with astigmatism. I have been wearing contacts and glasses since I was about 16 years old. But this past year, my doctor said that my astigmatism got just a little more advanced and that I should start wearing hard contacts instead. Well I was wearing O2Optix before, and they were great contacts! probably one of the best I have tried on. But now bc of my astigmatism he has me put on purevision, and there a little different in texture than the O2Optix. Well anyway with these contacts, it seems like my eyes are dry. My eyes are like really dry. I already bought like a year supply, but now I dont even like these damn contacts and they cost me so much. I want to return them, but I want to know whats the best contacts for astigmatism? And if I go to the doctor and tell him I want to try a specific brand will he allow it?
Answers: I have astigmatism and wore hard contacts for 10 years. It is totally true that you get crisper vision w/ hard lenses!!!
I now wear soft lenses. Maybe try Acuvue Oasys w/ Hydraclear Plus. I like them a lot... much better feel than my hard lenses. Just not as crisp of vision. And you have to take them out to sleep. I don't know if these are best for astigmatism, but my eye doctor suggested I try these first and I love them.
Perhaps your eye dr can sell/give you one pair of these kind of lenses (they usually have soft lenses in stock at their offices) so you can try them out for a couple weeks. I'm surprised that your eye dr didn't insist that you try your new lenses out before ordering. Just because you go from one soft lens to another doesn't mean that you won't have discomfort w/ the new lenses.
I really think you should lay off your contacts for a while. I was wearing contacts for many years and it gave me dry eyes and then it developed into eye infection. Wearing contacts actually deprives your eyes of oxygen and in the long run, I think it is not healthy. If you can help it, try getting used to wearing glasses instead.
O2optix does have those for people with astig. Check with ur optical shop staff.
