General check up tomorrow???
Question: this is my first time.. i want to know what exactly is done at a general check up?
Answers: the doctor checks your eyes, your ears, your throat (say ahhhh), tests your reflexes (by tapping your knee), takes your blood pressure, takes your temperature by mouth, tests your pulse, listens to your heart front and back (with his sthetsescope), asks if you've had any problems you want to talk about or ask about....they weigh you, check your height...they'll go over your intake information (on the form you filled in when you first arrived), they will suggest general tests you should have (if female they suggest pap test, breast exam), asks if you're on any medications, while there you give them a urine specimen, and they take your blood. If you need a flu shot, a tetanus shot, or a chest x-ray or are concerned about anything else, or want an AIDS test, let the doctor know and they will schedule you for that test or x-ray, or refer you to a specialist.
That's it.......in several days they want you to come back so they can show you the results.
usually you need to give a urine sample . then maybe check blood pressure and weight then go through your medical notes to check for all the illnesses you have had and to see how you are coping with any continuas medication you might be on its just general thigns dont worry
well, try to think of the doctor as naked ...this will make you feel less comfortable. keep in mind that the doctor sees many women and he or she has seen it all.
the instuments are cold but they will explain that and will explain everything and even during the proceedure.
good luck! i know the feeling!
depends on how old you are. IF you are under 21 and not having sex than they will check your blood pressure, pulse, eyes ears and nose. Height and weight and let you ask any questions. They may draw blood to test for iron defficiencies and other health problems They will probably give you the safe sex talk and that will be it.
If you are having sex or are over 21 than they will probably do a pap smear and suggest b/c also the safe sex talk. If you don't know what a pap smear is, it is when they put a speculum ( a duck looking thing) in your vagina and open it a little then they put a q-tip looking thing up there and scrape the cervix with it. Put the cervix cells on a microsoft slide and send it to the lab. They will also test you for stds and check to make sure your ovaries are where they should be.
