Does any ladie know what it means if they go for a smear and has to be refered to hospital??
Question: the doctor has said its on the borderline, i dont quite understand what it means
Answers: well i had a borderline smear a few months ago and all they wanted to do was have a look inside using a microscope and some dye. its totally pain free and non invasive and gives them a better idea on what treatment is best for you if any is needed. Don't worry about it its just procedure they have to recall you and look in to it. Mine needed treatment it was fine no pain never felt a thing, i know its worrying but please don't, as long as you are up to date with your smear tests it is unlikely that any abnormal cells have gone past that and turned in to cancer, all it will be for is just to either repeat smear test from a new area or use the dye.
Good luck and don't worry you will be fine.
i think when you have a smear they are testing for pre cancerous cells, if they find any they need to freeze them off, it doesnt mean you got cancer just that you could get it in later years.
It means they want to do another test, just to be sure everything's okay. Borderline means they wouldn't be comfortable telling you you're in trouble OR you're fine.
At any rate, please do go for the test. If it's negative, it'll put your mind at ease; if it's positive, you'll have caught any problems WAY early when they're easiest to deal with.
Good luck!
Sounds like since the test came out borderline, the doctor wants to be cautious and is sending you for further evaluation. If it was borderline, then that means the results may be abnormal, but are not necessarily. The hospital will probably repeat the test or perform more thorough or accurate tests to figure out if you really have a problem and the extent of the problem is if there is one.
It just means that the test was inconcusive, and they want to do another. I had a borderline result, i have a test done every 6 months and will do for 4 years.
It is just to be on the safe side.
Good luck.
you could have abnormal cells. Your test could have been done wrong and they would like to do it at the hospital for a true check. There are 3 stages of pre-cancerous cells and borderline although shocking when you get the letter you will be fine and they will sort it out for you. At least you are going for your smears. (I had stage 2 + 3 in Jan last year and I'm fine)
Hi
Dont worry!
Same happened to me last year after an abnormal smear.
Theres a chance you might have pre - cancerous cells which would be removed if you have them like mine were.
Now I have to have a smear every 6 months.
Otherwise no change.
We have smear tests because early detection is crucial and life saving!!!
If there are changed cells they will be removed by diathermy...u won`t feel a thing and it will be over in minutes there and then. They will also do a biopsy which will give the results in a few weeks.
Pass on the importance of smear tests!!!!!!!
Good Luck and Don`t Worry!

you may just have some abnormal cells - it sometimes runs in the family - nothing to get stressed about - what ever the out come go and get it checked. Better to know than to leave well alone. You will be in the best hands of care.
The cells in the cervix (opening to the womb) change normally during the monthly cycle. They also change before they become cancer.
This is why a smear test, where some cells are scraped off the cervix and then examined under a microscope, is done in the middle of a womans cycle.
If abnormal cells are found you need another test called a biopsy to tell why the cells have changed.
Dont worry. IF it is pre-cancerous it is easily treated early on!
Good Luck
I think that its because they didn't get a good enough sample at the initial test or they have found a small abnormality that they want to check, i know a couple of people that have been asked to go to hospital so i think it's quite common
